Unreal Jumppad Tutorial

Definition: a jump pad is simply a tool used to propel the player over large distances, across buildings, up onto objects, between buildings, etc.

    Setting up the Jumppad:

    1. Go to the Actor Class->Navigation Point->Jumppad->UT Jumppad.

    2. Now create a path node to use as a target for the jumppad.
      • To add a pathnode right click->select Add Path Node Here
      • To set the jumppad up to target your pathnode, open up the pathnode properties and under Object->Name, give the pathnode a name.
      • This is what the UTJumpPad and Path Node icons will look like
      • Next, open up the properties for the jumppad and under Navigation->ForcedPaths->[0] paste in the name you choose for the pathnode.
      • Then you will have to go under the Pathnode you are jumping to and Navigation->ForcedPaths-> [0] and put the name of the UTJumpPad in.
        • This will let the jumppad know which node to build the trajectory towards.
        • Now rebuild the level. This will give the jumppad a chance to calculate the distance and trajectory towards the pathnode. This curve shows the path that the player will follow when propelled by the jumppad. This curve is only visible when the jumppad is selected and visible in the viewport.

If the path generated is not right, the trajectory can be adjusted with the JumpZmodifier which is located in the Jumppad Properties-> Jumppad->JumpZmodifier. The jumppad can be adjusted by moving the pathnode to another location and rebuilding the level.
