3D Max UVW Mapping Page 1
  1. First you should apply a Multi Sub Object Texture to your model
    • Go to get material-> Multi/Sub-Object
    • By default the Multi/Sub Object has 10 sub-materials
      • Set it to the number of different portions of the object you will UV mapping
  • What the Multi/Sub Object allows you to do is while in the Unwrap UV window it allows you to select different sub material groups, I will explain later.

2. Once you have chosen how many sub materials to use start applying the sub materials to your object
  • Convert your object to editable poly->go into polygon face mode-> highlight a portion of your model, go to the Polygon properties section and set the ID number to what sub material you want it to be. See below

3. Now apply the unwrap modifier by going to the modify panel and go down to the unwrap UVW and left click
  • Now under Parameters click edit, go to the scroll down menu where it says All IDs and open it up. There are now 3 different materials

4. Now you are going to use the checker texture method
    1. Go into each sub material and apply a checker texture with a UV tiling of 10
      • To do this click on the material 1 box and click the little box next to the diffuse color
      • Click checker texture from the list apply a UV tiling of 10
      • Repeat this for all the sub materials

Note: before you change the texture to checker make sure that each section you want as a sub material is selected properly
